Frequently Asked Questions About Chiropractic Care
The following are common questions our Vancouver chiropractors are asked about chiropractic care. Please feel comfortable contacting us by phone or email if you don’t see an answer below, to a question that you may have. Our chiropractors are always ready to help.
Many patients arrive at our Vancouver chiropractic clinic having never been to a chiropractor before. The patient is greeted by our office manager and asked to fill out a case history form before meeting with the Chiropractor. Our Vancouver Chiropractors will then take a detailed history of the patient’s current complaint, as well as relevant health information. A focused exam will follow, where the Chiropractor will use specific orthopaedic tests, movements and tissue palpation to determine the cause of the complaint. A diagnosis will be made, and treatment options explained. Once consent to treatment has been obtained by the patient, it may consist of soft tissue treatment, adjustments, exercise prescription, stretches and/or possibly a modality such as laser.
What will happen is you will be asked to fill out a case history form, then the chiropractor will examine you asking you to do a number of movements, then based on their understanding of the source of the pain will provide both soft tissue treatment and adjustments if necessary.
The safety and effectiveness of chiropractic treatment have been studied in-depth and very carefully. Studies have found chiropractic to be extremely safe (low risk) and most effective in alleviating back pain, neck pain, headaches and many other musculoskeletal conditions. If you are diagnosed with a condition more appropriately treated by another health care professional, we will make that referral.
Chiropractic care is covered by MSP for premium-assisted patients. The fees for chiropractic care are set by the British Columbia Chiropractic Association and are standard. Most all extended benefit plans cover chiropractic care and therefore patients may send in their receipts and receive a reimbursement.
Chiropractors are the experts and trained in diagnosis of the musculoskeletal system so it is always recommended to see a Chiropractor first to understand the source of the pain and then a referral to a Massage Therapist will be made if necessary.
Broadway AT Yew Chiropractic & Massage always leaves appointment time available each day for urgent care. We do our best to accommodate all existing and new patients. Although many of our patients are referred through their Medical doctors, Podiatrists or Registered Massage Therapists, you do not need a referral to see the Chiropractors.
Absolutely not. We are here to help the patient with their current complaint, and to educate them on how to prevent it from reoccurring. Some conditions, such as repetitive motion injuries, or fibromyalgia for instance, need more constant care, others may take as little as 2-3 visits. Every patient is unique, and we will recommend the treatment schedule that is appropriate for a specific condition.
