Dr. Katie Schertzer has an extensive background in athletics, sports science, and rehabilitation, obtaining the majority of her Bachelors degree in Kinesiology and Health Sciences at the University of British Columbia before transferring to the University of Western States, where she went on to complete her Bachelors of Science in Human Biology, Masters of Science in Sports Medicine, and Doctor of Chiropractic degrees. Her education, along with her athletic and personal experiences, brings a unique addition to the Broadway at Yew team.
Her passion is not only invested in pain management and health sciences, but also athletic performance and movement quality in athletes of all levels. From the modern day desk job athletes, to weekend warriors, to professional level, Dr. Schertzer has completed over 150hrs of practical experience on the sidelines treating amateurs to pros. She has provided medical services for events such as the US National Handball tournament, the Canby Rodeo, Portland Stags Major Ultimate and many more.
Dr. Schertzer specializes in chiropractic manipulation, movement screening, rehabilitative exercise, Active Release Technique (ART) and other soft tissue techniques. With an emphasis on patient education, and addressing core biomechanical and behavioural factors behind the presenting symptoms, Dr. Schertzer’s aim is to provide care through a patient centred approach.
Dr. Schertzer’s involvement extends beyond just treatment. With a long history of athletics and coaching, her personal experiences allow a wide lens with which she approaches patient management. She was involved in a local semi professional circus troupe called Avatar and high-level men’s and women’s hockey before a few injuries lead her to seek a career in health care and sport sciences. She continues to play hockey and lead a very active lifestyle. Dedicating herself to continued learning through various programs and research Dr. Schertzer’s commitment is to provide the most innovative, evidence based patient centred care.
