Customized Orthotics in Vancouver

Broadway AT Yew Chiropractic & Massage is fully equipped to provide you orthotic devices to restore your natural foot function. If you have flat feet, fallen arches, bunions or have one leg longer than the other, our state-of-the art computer system complements our biomechanical and physical exam by recording your timing sequences during gait as you walk or run across a pressure plate. Our Chiropractors will then have a clear picture of your foot mechanics to determine whether you would benefit from wearing custom-made foot orthotics.*

Stay Comfortable and Healthy!

Why are Orthotics Necessary?

Orthotics are an effective way of helping balance the inadequacies of your feet and legs.  Some people are born with high arches, others have flat feet.  Orthotics can help make up the difference to help you stay comfortable and healthy.

Common Reasons People Need Orthotics

As noted, some people are simply born with flat feet, or arches that are too high.  In other cases, patients may suffer from a variety of conditions such as tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, chondromalacia patellae (a condition of the patella), iliotibial band syndrome, and runner’s knee or even have 1 leg longer than the other.  Let’s take a look at the different types of orthotics.

What are the Different Types of Orthotics?

There are four main types of orthotics as follows:

Arch Supports

Arch supports help people who are naturally born with high arches, or flat feet.  The added support will help the foot to function properly, thus reducing the risk of foot, leg and back injuries or other conditions that may result.

Insoles

Insoles simply slip into your footwear to provide extra support and cushion.  They can be made of foam, gel, or plastic.

Heel Liners

Heel liners, otherwise referred to as heel pads or hell cups, provide extra support and cushion to the heel region of the foot.  Our heels have natural fat pads that can wear down as we age.  Heel liners are particularly helpful to older patients suffering from a reduction or loss of these fat pads.

Foot Cushions

Foot cushions act as a barrier between your feet and the insides of your footwear.  If your heels or toes rub against your shoes, foot cushions can help.

How are Custom Orthotics Made?

There are several different methods of creating custom orthotics.  Along with a visual exam, it is common practice to have a computerized scan of your gait performed.  This scan will help create a special mold of your feet which will be used to design your custom orthotics.

Orthotics and Chiropractic

Our Vancouver Chiropractors will take a full health history, and in some cases, perform a computerized gait analysis to see exactly how your feet function when you walk.  From there, a basis will be made as to whether or not you require custom or over the counter orthotics, and any additional chiropractic treatment to address other conditions that may be contributing to your foot problems.

At BROADWAY AT YEW Chiropractic & Massage, our Chiropractors are specially trained in fitting custom orthotics.  As well, we can treat many of your health conditions and injuries by using natural drug-free methods that are designed to return your body to optimal health and performance.  Our techniques include mobilizations, manipulations, and adjustments to the feet to ensure that your feet are moving optimally without restriction.

If you are suffering from problems with your feet and think Chiropractic and orthotics might be right for you, give us a call at BROADWAY AT YEW Chiropractic & Massage.  We will be happy to put together a treatment plan that will have you feeling better in no time.
